Need Ideas on What to Use and How to Wrap a Recurve Grip....

Hey all,
I just picked up a Hoyt Excel riser. I like the riser and all, but the grip just doesn't feel right to me. Luckily the riser is made so that it wouldn't be hard to create a wrap to make a grip of my own. The problem I am having is that I don't know what to use to wrap it with. Do I use duct tape as a base and then wrap it with something comfortable to my hand or what?
I need some ideas on what I can use to wrap the base layer with and the subsequent layers with. For those that have done this, what did you use for your last layer under your hand to get it nice and comfy? I am thinking about the stuff that tennis players use to wrap their grips on the rackets. That stuff is pretty comfortable and some of it is pretty thick. It might work to use that stuff for the whole thing, but it would be kinda pricey at about $25 or so.
Ideas and thoughts?
Thanks

They make rubber type bow handle wraps. hockey tape works, you can get the rubber stuff at most sporting goods stores.

There is a world of factory grip options for your riser. I personally would not try wrapping the riser, but that's just me.

Most tape leave a sticky glue that will in time transfer to your hands, insted go to hobby shop and pick up some leather lace, wound tightly, when moist, then some fine sheet leather to finish, again while moist. you can speed up drying by useing hairdryer. It will out last most other things and look good to.

A bicycle inner tube cut to the length you want can be slipped over the bow limbs and adjusted into position works well and is very durable .

I have thought about the inner tube. I have those on my longbow and my Grizzly and it works great.
The leather idea is really tempting. I might just try that. Sounds like it would make a great grip.
If I did that, would BARGE cement be the best way to secure it?

No need to cement it . If the tube is snug enough it will stay in place . That's the beauty of it , no glue to mess with and no cleaning off to replace it . And most of all it is cheep , comfortable and durable . The only down side if any is that it can turn your hand black where it contacts your skin but that washes off .

I tried the tennis racket tape, some ugly off bluegreen stuff, it slipped around, went back to what I normally do and wrap it with camo cloth tape, but that won't build it up like you want. It does leave a sticky residue but that subsides after a few days. I use some contact cement on the end of the tape to keep it from unwrapping. Cheap and it works to keep my hand from slipping on my bows with a slick finish.

I have make a leather grip,
here a few pics
make the leather wet,
protect the grip area with plastic wrap
and clamp the wet leather over the grip,
than let it dry and cutt it down.

What about paracord. I've see axe handles wrapped on it. There's a way to wrap it and pull the loose end back through so it stays in place.
