i'm expecting a new border black douglas with hex6 limbs at 70#@28" soon. i was going to make a 12 strand D97 string for it but i'm wondering if 10 strand would be better?

I'd go with no less than 12.  10 will just give you more stretch and creep.

Whoa, Clint! Got yourself a new buff hunting bow, huh?

I hope all is well with you and yours!

LBR makes a point about the creep. It could make tuning a pain. I think D10 or 8125 is supposed to creep less. Or 452x is supposed to have basically zero creep ... then you could use whatever strand count you want I guess ...

Personally I just use whatever fits my nocks best usually, but I'm shooting much lighter weight bows.

I leave my main bows strung-with D97 it was becoming a bit of a pain. D10 hardly creeps at all-coupla' twists every now and then.

D-10 is only slightly stronger than '97--to the point that BCY took it off their list of products.  The same basic material is available as Force 10 x-bow material.

Dynaflight '97 is SK75 Dyneema.  10 is SK78 Dyneema.

If you want a significant increase in strength, move up to 8190, which is SK90 Dyneema.  Much smaller diameter, my choice for a "skinny" string because you don't have to go with a low strand count.  It's about 1/2 the diameter of Dynaflight--18 strands is still a small diameter string.

A Dyneema/Vectran blend like 452X or Trophy will be the most stable, but will fuzz up some.

I would go with a 12 strand D97,it is strong enough for up to a 100# bow.I shot a 12 strand D97 on a Dan Quillian Longhunter 83# bow.

chad, you see your point about excessive creep with the 10 strand. i did think this might be the case. i'll stick with 12 strands i guess.

thanks guys
