I like the 6 color desert pattern. The different shades of tan seem to blend into just about any terrain here in PA.

Here's what I was wearing last year.

Jacket is Predator deception ..brown I think..
When I washed the jacket it faded/lightened up quite a bit so I had to dye it a bit for this year.

Insulated pants are mossy oak something...

Both look good in B&W

I'm thinking pretty hard about switching to wool..either solid of some type of plaid. Most of the plaids I've seen from the vendor I'd like to purchase from seem a little too light colored for my hunting spots...might just do some dye work on them too...

It's been a few years since I've hunted or played woods paintball but when I did, my favorite shirt was a tan flannel with narrow grey plaid. In paintball I was told that when I stopped moving, I disappeared, and the only way they could spot me was by my blue jeans. That great tip made me quit wearing jeans to paintball... Also, I had 2 deer feed within 4 feet of me while sitting at the base of a tree. Unfortunately that was sooo close I couldn't move to get a shot.

I would give right arm to find that shirt again. Or even to find a similar pattern. It makes sense though, as the color was close to that of a deer, but slightly lighter.

My experiences with that shirt were in the woods of Ohio, so not sure how it would translate to CA.

Tops and pants are always different pattern.
Usually wear a bug suit top with the sewn on leaves. It really helps in other ways besides bugs.
It knocks off that hot sun that can pop out on even cool days but lets the breeze through..then conversely..it slows that dang cold north wind
and seems to make my underlayers a little warmer.
I think it cuts reflection from the sun also.
Best camo top I have.
