Joe! I have a couple capes but never thought of the rug. I think the capes in a Rio or Merriam with the light color to contrast are the best looking.

We have done that with our birds excpet we don't put a rug underneath them and we hang ours tail feathers down.
and its not too hard to skin them for that type of mount.
