Stalking Whitetails....how to keep up

My experience with hunting in general I have noticed that most of the time whitetails can move pretty swift through the woods....so, When you guys are stalking how do you do it? try to just follow them? circle around and head them off?

If I moved as fast as they move they would hear me for sure.

so, How do you guys keep up with a deer that is on the move when you are stalking them.

My favorite stalking is in wet weather keeps your noise down but unless the wind is in your face you will most likely get busted.

The damp air carries sent like a sponge. Think rabbit dogs on a dewy morning they can hardly lose a trail but after it warms up anddries out they have a harder time trailing.

At least thats what I've noticed and what I think.

Could be completely wrong, I sneak up on a good number of deer on wet days, I just can't hit em

Wet days are great... but as for keeping up... just won't happen.

I stalk (still-hunt) on wet windy days... but I choose my direction based upon the prevailing wind. As often as not, the deer come to me.

I've often had them walk off without getting a shot. Takes a lot of patience. Circling ahead of them sometimes works, but the wind may not allow that.

Where I live the bucks are now chasing. This is a great time to be in the woods. Deer may come from most any direction at any time.

A long time ago on a very windy day, (to windy to be in a tree stand), I was introduced to cutting rows of a standing corn field. Me and 2 other bowhunters decided to space out about 50 yards apart along a standing corn field. The guy at the end entered the corn field first, 4-5 minutes later the second guy entered, followed by me following 4-5 minutes later. We would stick our heads through the rows and look in either direction before taking a step into that row. We gradually made it to the other side and shifted down 50 yards from where the first guy entered. To be honest with you, after I was half way through the standing corn field on my second trip, I was starting have my doubts. But at that very moment I was nearly ran over by several deer!! After calming down, I noticed that there was a good amount of blood on the corn about 15 yards ahead of me?? The middle man nailed a decent size 8 pointer that was bedded down in the corn at about 18 yards!! Even though I have tried this technic several times since then, I have never connected. But I know it works on those windy dry days.
