Thank you Sir for sharing.
I can't say what I want you to hear from me better than Bud B said it so I use his quote.

Thank you!

God bless,Mudd

PS: I also thank you Bud B for your words that expressed my sentiments exactly.

I often wonder about that old deer that saluted me, then snickered as it walked away.

Great buck Barry!

As far as the 101 year old buck I think that is pretty amazing.

One time on Long Island, in a heavily hunted surburban area I saw this huge buck with just massive spikes that looked really old drinking out of a puddle in the dirt road. All of a sudden he picks his head up and sees a doe and slowly trots at probablt his full speed at this doe barley going faster than a walk. I remember thinking you go get him old guy.

It is still amazing to me that he didn't get killed during the 3 month archery season and the one month shotgun season or killed by a car crossing all the roads. I've never forgotten that deer.

Great post all the way around from the old man to the hunt story.  Congratulations on an incredible animal in both encounters.     :notworthy:    :notworthy:    :notworthy:

Great story, as are all of yours. I really enjoy the personal aspect of hunting that you share. People outside of hunting have a hard time understanding that we as hunters respect these animals, to an unbelievable extent. Thanks again,
hoping for a 102 year old man next year.

Well, the old man was finally caught on camera.

Poor guy.  Looks like he still has a little desire, but not much left to impress the ladies with.

Barry Wensel

You can see what I mean about his spine. Also his hindquarters look atrophied. If you saw him walk you'd understand. Apparently his hip joints don't articulate because of arthritis and his gait is more of a shuffling. Impressive indeed knowing all he's been through. BW

How does that old man avoid yotes??? Incredible.

Kind of makes me feel happy and sad all at the same time.  I don't think the anti's can understand the emotional tie we have with our adversary and how emotional it is to see this kind of stuff.  I think they look at us a demonic killing machines.  I get all sad when I hit a bird or squirrel with my car.  Very cool of you to post this here for all to see Barry.  Congrats on that opportunity to see a true monarch in his latter stage of life.  My only hope is it goes quick for him and by some dumb luck you stumble onto his carcass and can preserve the skull.  A fitting ending for the ole timer of the woods.

Mr. Barry, just curious, do you have a pic of him in his prime? Or can you explain what he looked like years ago? I apologize if you have already said it or posted it as I haven't had time to read the whole thread yet.  Very interesting .. thanks, Seth

Barry, I sure wish you would write another book!  I can't tell you how much I enjoyed your first one! You have a natural talent for telling a story. I've read your first book at least four times.

Graybarkhunter: I don't have a trail camera photo of him but I do (think) I have video footage of him. In fact, I passed him up twice in 2006, once on film at 18 yds. because I was actively after the B&C buck nicknamed Rocky and I only had one buck tag then. I'm just speculating but the buck I think he used to be I mentioned on page 74 of my book "Once Upon A Tine" in the chapter titled "Rocky XI". Basically, (so you all don't have to buy the book. ha) he was pretty non-typical. He had a basic 4x4 main frame but his bases were "as big around as a can of corn" as the old farmers say. He also had exceptional brow tines as well as a cluster of significant non-typical points near the massive bases. In 2006 I figured he was 5 1/2 yrs. old which (if I'm correct) would make him 12 1/2 this fall. BW

Thanks! That is really interesting. I got something new on my Christmas list... Once upon a Tine    :D
