The old warrior deserved respect and honor. You did right by him. Thanks for sharing that story.

That deer reminds me of my Grandpa that lived to be 102.  He had a long & healthy life & peacefully passed away last winter.  I hope your buck has a dignified ending as well.

Barry, I remember the thread from last year quite well.

I know some people who would have "put an end to his suffering".  It appears as if he was doing fine!

Sounds to me like that old boy is darn lucky to be living on your land, Barry! I doubt many would kill him, but I also doubt many would show him the respect you have.    :notworthy:

Makes you wonder how many close calls he has had over the years. A salute from one woodsman to another. Great stuff!!

Sounds like there is a mutual respect.  Almost like he knows you thin out the younger studs so he can live in peace.  At this point he is probably hunting you for the protection lol.  Awesome story.

Most Excellent!
This is the kind of stuff that one finds no where else but trad gang.
Like one fellow said,I too have an old rescued male dog.
A Border Collie/Golden Retriever mix. To the best of my knowledge Bart is 17, blind, arthritic, sleeps most of the day, but still wags his tail, eats well, has good bladder control, loves to ride in the truck. No way I would do anything but honor him, just like Barry did with this ancient buck.
