On Saturday afternoon I had an amazing opportunity. We did not get in the "lottery" this year for does and fawns so we only had antlered tags. This is in Ontario.
I got in the stand nice and early at around 2 o clock. It was a pretty windy day and raining on and off pretty constantly. Just as the sun made its final move on the horizon and sunk for the evening I heard a small rustle of leaves to my right.. "A squirrel" I thought to myself. But I readied myself anyway silently standing up and getting myself in position. Poised like a viper I waited eyes locked onto the opening of where it most likely would come out. Then there it was a small nose poked from between the cedar trees. A nice big doe.. And beside her another. They walked out and sniffed the air completely relaxed. My heart was racing and the shakes began but I managed to calm myself down quickly. They were both 5 yards away from me broadside, and it was exhilarating. They both stood there for a couple minutes munching little shoots. And then suddenly two little yearling fawns popped out from the brush and were playing around all right in front of me. Since we can only shoot bucks this time around I could do nothing but it was great practice and one of the best times I've had all year. I love being in the woods
