Big River 21st Century(she got bloody this morning)
« on: November 21, 2013, 06:06:00 PM »
I picked one up, great craftsmanship.  What brace height do you guys run yours at?  A little different style and lighter draw weight than I normally shoot, mine is 49 at my 28 inch draw.  I know several of you guys shoot John's bows, any arrow setups you like?  Don't normally ask spine questions but this a little different setup than I'm used to.

How long is it?  I know on my Milton 70" 21st I was running about 7 inches.

I like mine at about 8.5 Inches to the back of the riser.  I have 2 set up this way.

1. 64" 48 @ 29

2. 68" 50 @ 29

I seem to get great arrow flight from both 50-55 and 55-60 doug fir or cedar shafts cut to 31 Inches BOP to valley of nock with 125 grains up front.

I run both of mine at fistmele + about 1/8 - 1/4" and that turns into about 6 5/8" to the belly side of the shelf or about 8 1/2 to the back.  Both bows are 66".  My 49#er I shoot CE150's with 175 up front.  I have also shot CE250's thru it with success but of course they are heavier.

Mine is a 66".  That brace height is way lower than previous owner had it setup, glad I asked.  Probably wouldn't have dropped it that low without your input, I will have to give it a try.

Thanks for the advice guys, I settled it in close to what you recommended and it likes 29" tapered cedar with 160gr points pretty well with a good clean release.  Not sure it's the perfect arrow but it's not too far off for me.

I wasted no time putting her into action.

She gave me a nice shot at 10yds and the Big River sent a big Tusker Delta clean thru leading to a short recovery.  There was a dandy buck behind her I didn't see until after I shot her and he peeled out still chasing her even in her death run.  Imagine his disappointment when she keeled over on him.  But no regrets here about not getting a shot at him, they're all good deer with a stickbow in my book.
