Charlie Lamb inspired me!
«
on:
November 24, 2013, 12:45:00 PM »
After seeing Charlie's pics of the buck and bobcat, I ordered a new camera to pack with me.
Rifle season is on right now and I haven't been hunting much , but took a pic from my truck of a doe at about 50 yds this morning.
Will be packing it bowhunting for sure!! Pics remind me of what a great pastime we have!
Thanks to Charlie, and Jason Samkowiak who recommended this Canon in the camera forum!!

That looks good. I will have to go see what was recommended. We had a nicer one i was taking out, but it vanished mysteriously last year sometime. We looked everywhere and never found it. Now I only have the phone and our real old Olympic. They work fine for close up stuff, but not to get nicer pics. I really wish I had something better this year for some foxes I had around one day.

Its a Canon SX160IS, great tele and image stabilization for treestand shots without a tripod. I'm impressed!!
I thought about the SX50 but the added size and cost to put in my backpack led me to this one. So far, so good!!

I have the Canon SX110IS which is a less expensive version and may be an older iteration of this series of cameras. But it has served me well and will use regular AA batteries in a pinch although they don't last as long as the camera specific kind. Mine is a 10x zoom. It looks like the SX160IS is a great buy and a great choice. I like its compactness for travel and hunting or whatever. Only trouble I have is I never have it out when I need it!

Very nice buddy. The trick is not leaving it in the truck or at home and having it handy in the stand. Kind of a pain at times, but pays dividends in the long run. Like the nice picture of the doe above.

Nicely done Kenny. I carry mine and use it to view and edit out the SD card pics from game cams in the field.

Good Stuff Kenny.
I don't know a whole lot about cameras, but the last one I bought was about $350, and I could not believe the HD video this 'regular' looking camera takes not to mention the pics.
Did you get one what records also?

I've taken a lot of pictures in my bowhunting life. Some good and some not so good, but the only ones that ever disappointed me are the ones I didn't take because I was in a hurry or it wasn't convenient.
Memory fades with time but the pictures bring back the memories.

Here in Delaware, shotgun season ended Saturday and there are lots of gut piles/carcasses in fields. On the way back home from a fruitless morning, I saw a family of 5 bald eagles, 2 adults and 3 young, on 3 deer carcasses in a field. I carry a camera in my truck for just such things. I also carry one to my stand. Haven't had many photo ops while hunting so far this year. Where I hunt, it's so thick that when you see a deer, it's in your lap.

I bought this exact camera on clearance at a store my wife and I went to and a few days later I read Jason's recommendation on the Photo Thread of the Canon SX160IS and couldn't believe that we bought a camera recommended by a professional. God was leading my wife obviously because neither of us know diddly about cameras!
Terry it does great video and that 16MM Optical Zoom is awesome. It does more than I will ever know but Jason does a great pod cast on taking good pictures that helped me understand photography much better.

Awesome bud!! Photography and bowhunting have a ton in common and for me there's a lot of time to do other things while waiting for deer to come by.
