Alaska fish and game has decided that we need to kill 70 brownies this spring in the unit I live in, they also decided to let us take them off of black bear bait stations, what a chance to get real close!!!!

Don't know about you, but sitting in a tree watching a brownie at the barrel would be a WHOLE LOT different than a blackie. Post pics when you do it!

ive been watching them take over baits every year, some times you cant get out of the tree for a while, but this year we can kill em

I heard on KDLL today that the Kenai Wildlife Refuge is not participating in the bear or predator hunting of any type including lynx. The Feds want a healthy bear and predator population. The state wants a healthy moose population that is low on the peninsula for reasons far more complicated than bear numbers.
If not mistaken I also believe there is a salvage requirement on the carcass. A brown bear carcass is bait for another brown bear and could get an unexpecting person in a world of trouble. Called a cache...and ranks right up there with getting between a sow and cubs.

you are right about the refuge but the state land is still fair and possibly national forest, salvaging the meat is a must, get it done quick, probably cant just drag it out whole, but you do have the right to defend yourself and property,
I hadn't read about the lynx yet, that seems strange as lynx traping on the refuge starts jan 1

Outstanding! That is a great opportunity. I had a couple instances, when I lived up there outside of Fairbanks, where a Griz would come in on a Black Bear bait. Increases the pucker factor, considerably! i would imagine it would increase again with a Brownie, especially a 10-12 footer!
Good Luck, Hope ya get a good one!
