No respect at all...
« on: November 30, 2013, 09:09:00 PM »
Rodney Dangerfield has nothing on me. Let me explain. This has been a very slow year with only 4 or 5 chances to go afield. A couple of days ago, I wanted to get out, but I have a nasty cold, so the sniffling and coughing put hunting out of the question. However, I have a buddy with a white oak tree that produced a ton of acorns. I had gathered up a bag full and was walking around planting them all around. (Maybe if any trees do grow, my grandson will live long enough to see them produce acorns.)

Any way, I checked out 3 of my favorite stands and found many buck rubs around all of them. Maybe if I could have hunted a bit more I might have gotten a good shot. But that is not the worst... When I approached my newest ground blind, I jumped three deer who were taking their midday snooze actually inside my blind!

As our British friends would say that is really "cheeky" with no respect at all.

It's crazy how whitetail deer manage to do that kind of stuff to us. I used to love/hate them for that. Do you think they do it on purpose just to humiliate us?

That's hilarious!  And sad at the same time.  Thanks for sharing.  I'd leave the blind.  You know where they bed late season and you can just sneak in and be ready!

Cool stuff.

A couple of years ago I found a likely looking spot in a cedar thicket on the edge of a good bedding area not far away. No trees to get in so I cleared out a place to sit on a stool I had with me and hunted 'til dark. Shortly after I sat down, I saw a nice buck roaming through but just out of range.

Anyway, I came back the next day and there were  fresh deer tracks in the place I had cleared out to sit! And that's not all. There were also fresh droppings there as well! At least that told me I must have done a good job by not leaving my scent all over the place as I sat in that spot.
