Turkey Man does good
« on: November 30, 2013, 09:35:00 PM »
Street talk is our turkey guru Joey Buchanan killed a monster whitetail today. Who said big whitetails are tough compared to a butterball? Someone needs to prod him for the story and some pictures.

How do you turn down an intro from Mr. Whitetail himself.......no not Marty.....Uncle Barry the man. well.... i'll keep it short.....most of ya'll are probably ADD like me....MS River Pre rutt was smokin last week with COLD temps. I had missed 2 nice bucks and a doe and paunch shot a doe i recovered the next day. My accuracy or confidence was taking a beating.. ya'll know the merit badge... Decided to let my homemade recurve bow i call Swamprooter rest Sat. morning for first time in 20 seasons and try my new Alaska Bowhunting Nano 2 longbow i had been shooting off and on for months.  Hunted a stand in a sweetgum cutover i havent been too in 2 years except briefly in Aug to check on climbing steps.  I slept late and got to my stand at 7 am. Bumped a nice buck going in but contined on.  7:05 6 pt. comes trotting by and never checks up. 7:15 i see horns, alot of horns and he's coming with head up. Its thick where i hunt so i see him first at 40 yards and get ready he's at 30 ,20 15....oh crap..he 's going to cross my entrance path.......12.....10..he has no clue......8 ......7..........pull the arrow to my eye and looked down the shaft and whisper "Hello Smokey".....thunk!!!!..1 7/8" broadhead buries through the buck..reason why i said Hello Smokey is because the buck croosed right over my boot tracks which i had applied Smokeys Coon scent on my boots.......love that stuff...... so first time i ever took the Nano 2 hunting and 15 minutes later.....i got horns and meat...stayed in stand another hour so i could miss another doe and get that streak started again ( limb hit a muscadine vine or something like that )........the buck had that low thunder take off. whac..whac.whac...whuc..whuc.and started to plow over small sapplings , i knew he was down...... found him 43 steps from my stand.....pic makes him look huge... but he has three main beams which is different for me.......i was lucky this time.....its strange new feeling  :)

Aim down your arrow because thats where it's going.
