Foam pad glazing compound from the auto parts store.  3M is the brand of choice.  LF

If they are a lot like the ones I run across, they have years of gunk on em. If so I use very fine steel wool like 0000. And a furniture polish\\was sprayed on it, that usually takes the junk off. The 0000 steel wool won't take much off unless you go crazy. Then coat after wiping off excess old gunk. With a good wax, usually makes them 100% better. Than before.

Small buffer with wax or glaze...if you use rubbing compound you will leave swirls.

Go to Ace Hardware they sell some stuff called Scratch Out, comes in a yellow plastic bottle made by Kit. Works great, takes all the gunk off and removes all of the fine scratches....
Its in the automotive dept.

I just cleaned up an old Ben Pearson Colt with Flitz  Metal Polish and it worked very well.  Used some 0000 steel wool for the real real stubborn gunk parts.  It would have come off with the Flitz and some more elbow grease, but it got a little late in the evening and I got a little more hurried.

This is from the Flitz website.
PASTE METAL, PLASTIC, FIBERGLASS POLISH & PAINT RESTORER
Flitz Metal Polish is a concentrated cream that is unequaled in its ability to clean, polish, deoxidize and protect a variey of metals, painted surfaces, glass and fiberglass. Available in two different size tubes.

Scratch Out! Go easy over the decals, lettering, etc. Rub harder on the obligatory latex paint splatters, etc. Wal Mart also carries it in the Automotive dept. That stuff is pure magic. I recently acquired a beautiful 1953 (good year huh) spinet piano. I used the scratch out on the keys and it did a wonderful job. Take care, CKruse
