Bow Rack
« on: December 04, 2013, 10:21:00 AM »
So I'm in the process of finishing my basement and I want to display 3 of my recurves.  I'm looking for a nice bow rack and thought this group could help.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

It works fantastic for my longbows, and I feel like it would work fine for a recurve if you made the horizontals a bit longer to keep them from canting back against the wall. My problem was with space for 70" longbows laid horizontal. The vertical configuration holds several bows and only takes up about 18" of wall space.

I made it out of scrap white pine I had lying around, but I want to make one with some highly figured Maple for the final version.

Just standby though....there will be some on here that will knock your eyes out. Some of these guys have some beauts!!!

Do a thread search for "bow racks". This has been a subject on here a few times and there are some incredible examples of craftsmanship on them.

I put hooks on a picture frame.  There's all of about $20 in this rack:

A similar thread ran a couple of years ago and there were truly some works of art. Unfortunately, the pictures were deleted or moved from the hosting sites and no longer show up.

Hopefully some of those will be re-posted.

I have one, but plan to build a new one and I'm not averse to playing copy cat   :)

My new one will have the pegs closer to the riser and the base cabinet will be a bit deeper.

Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways-BOW in one hand-ARROWS in the other-Body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming-WOO HOO! WHAT A RIDE!

Here is mine. Cherry given to me by a friend. Cedar shaft hangers with nocks added for fun. And a turtle totem at the top to remind me to move slowly and observe.

Here's a small bow rack I made for my boys' Mad dog bows.  I got the idea from a tradganger a couple years ago.  I've also added the soft side of adhesive Velcro in the hooks where the bows sit.  It's made from local mahogany....and I dare say it's the only bow rack in the country!

I made this one out of cheap pine 1x2's. Would look alot better with quality wood. I have the dimensions I used if anyone wants them. Mike

Man, you guys have some GREAT looking bow racks! I just took 2 wooden coat racks from the home improvement store and a 1x4 board (cut into 3 pieces) to make some cross bars, screwed 'em all together & called it a bow rack! LOL! It ain't real pretty, but it holds 4 bows horizontally on the wall. I'm not all that crafty, but I'm tryin' to learn to do/make more stuff. You guys are a constant source of inspiration & guidance, and I sincerely thank you for that!
