Fletching glue
« on: December 04, 2013, 06:02:00 PM »
Which of the fletching glues work the best for aluminum arrows ? I have heard that Fletch Tite is no good any more .

Saunders NVP works well for me. Just make sure your shafts are prepped well. Rumor has it that Fletch Tite Platinum came out with a new formula.

I have good luck with a thick CA glue that I get from the Grizzly wood working store.

If you crown dip/spray paint your shaft, shaft material is irrelevant.  You need a glue to stick to the paint.  If you don't, why not?  If you're making arrows, make them pretty.  That said, I like fletch tape with a drop of glue on each end also.  Fletch-tite has never failed me, though I do rebuild my arrows after about two years worth of shooting.  This process let's you make arrows without waiting for glue to dry using just a single fletching jig.  (In my case a Bitz, and one Bitz is a lot cheaper than six!)

Gorilla glue works for me, sets up quickly and remains bonded even on pass through shots on backstop for those occasional oops shots.

What about Duco?  Has anyone tried this fletching glue to aluminum?

Duco works great on G/T Trad carbons, don't know about aluminums.

I am of course, talking about fletching directly to the aluminum arrow, NOT a wrap or dip.  Fletch tite platinum like others here, I discovered does not work directly to aluminum worth a flip.

Saunders has worked great for me on aluminum and wood (on finish) for years.

The feathers let go today on the aluminums I fletched 4 days ago with Duco.  Back to the jig with NPV to see if that'll hold on some Legacies.
