2 piece td longbow with bolts??
« on: December 11, 2013, 08:49:00 AM »
I was talking to a guy the other nite about td systems for longbow. I had seena system where the bow was cut in 2 pieces at a 45 angle diagonally along the riser and then bolted back together.  Does anyone remember what this system is called or who makes it? I have looked bit can't find it. Steve

I think Thunderhorn once made a 2-piece like that.  Pretty sure they discontinued making a 2-piece some time ago.

Jeff Massie made his take down Longhorns with a dimilar system. He added a set screw on the side to lock in place.

You might be thinking of a Stotler bow.  It's takedown riser is sawn at an angle and twice bolted back to belly.  They have a website.  Thunderhorn archery cuts its 2-piece such that the bolts run from side to side through the riser.  They have a website as well.

I seem to remember years ago there was a takedown longbow (I think in the old selway ads in TBM) hat was cut on a 45 with two bolts from the belly side of handle.....I remember that had a real pronounced pistol grip with finger indexing on the back....

but thats all I got...

I have a neighbor that has a 2 piece Centaur...one of the coolest takedown setups I've seen.  I prefer a 3 piece myself though, just due to smaller pieces for a more compact package in transit.

I think the Stotler bow is what you are thinking of.  Thanks for reminding me Jerry.

Wow, trying to find a picture, I found a site called archery history (google it).  They have a ton of pix of really neat older bows and arrows and other archery related gear.  Some would surprise most of the younger crowd who never saw built-in overdraws, off set handles, shoot thru handles, folding bows etc before the rise of compounds.

Hickstick,  you are remembering a bow system that a guy named Red Chavez was using on his bows. I think Gordy at Selway used the same system for the bow he was making/having made.
Keep flinging those shafts!

Thanks for all. The replies! Of the ones mentioned, the Centaur is tge closest to what I am describing, the one I am picturing is cut like the centaur but instead of the cut running straight through the riser it was cut on a diagonal 45 where tge riser was thick on top of the cut and faded to thin on the other. Then the opposite side of the handle was the reverse.  Maybe I am crazy and it was all a dream? Lol thanks again Steve

The Selway bows used to incorporate that system Steve. It worked okay but was not the best system out there by any means.
