Crazy tuning issue??
« on: December 29, 2013, 10:57:00 AM »
Shooting 58" toelke whip, 41lbs at 28 inches, I'm drawing 27 3/4.

Thought it was tuned with 28 inch 40/45, 5/16 woodies, 100 point. The porpasal came back nock kicking high in flight.

Broke out the paper tuning rack, horrible nock high tears, 1 week ago it was punching bullet holes. Move nock up down, no change. The I figured it out it's was my grip, I was gripping the bow to hard.

This sound right, seems strange, shooting 15/35 gold tip trads 28.5 with 145 grain points the nock high does not happen even with a death grip.

I had Marco snap nocks on the wood, seemed they were to tight, put some bohning classics on thinking that would help same deal.

I have never had grip pressure give high or low tears, the tears were 1 inch or longer.

I have found the shorter bows more finicky. Grip and high elbow made me do crazy things.

"1 week ago it was punching bullet holes."

Keb,  I suggest you quit paying with the nock point, move it back to where it was!  YOU have changed something in your shot execution, the equipment hasn't changed ( check that your brace height hasn't changed) but as you say, a week ago "bullet holes" and now??

We are too ready to "adjust" equipment and overlook the MOST variable part -- US!!!

Copy that, what will the brace height changes do to the spine and nock point on arrows. Increasing brace adds weight, spine decreases weight, what else ??

I put it back to 1/2 inch.

Probably more to the point, if the brace height changes that will affect how the arrow comes out of the bow.  BH change has MINIMAL effect on bow weight (essentially NONE!).

What happens though is if the BH gets lower (the most probable thing to happen) the arrow MIGHT hit the riser or in some other way be affected.

When you have been shooting "bullet holes" as you say, just be sure the BH and Nocking point are still the SAME and then look to your form and execution!! You do have the BH and NP measurements written down don't you?  That way you can check and know they are the same when something weird happens in your shot.
