After returning to Missouri I shifted my focus to deer hunting. I've been using a canoe to get into some hard to access areas on a public land spot. I had spooked a nice buck out of one of the spots last year and was determined to be in the right spot this year. Sure enough I saw two good bucks out of that spot this year. Unfortunately one of them winded me and the other was bedded near my stand as I entered in the afternoon.
So goes the luck of this year. Close but no cigar. The Missouri deer herd size is supposed to be down and I think the EHD has reduced the number of mature bucks. Having said that I've still seen a lot of deer but just can't seem to be in the right spot at the right time.
I did manage to shoot a yearling doe on one of my canoe trips. She made it to the river before she expired so she was a bit wet in my pictures.
I was there when my brother connected on a nice buck at our family farm. It was great to be there with him.
I wish these pictures included me standing over a nice bull or a good buck but it wasn't meant to be this year. I'll still count my blessings to have a family that allows me to hunt and the opportunity to experience wild places. I pushed my body further than I thought it could go at times. In other moments I just sat and soaked in the beauty of the outdoors. All in all it was a good fall and I hope you enjoy the pictures.
