Shrew T/D Systems???
« on: December 30, 2013, 06:20:00 PM »
Just received a John McCullough made Shrew two-piece.

I've done some exstensive searches in Pow Wow to learn what I can about this system and basically have found very little.  One post favoring the system and one post not favoring the system.

First off, can someone inform me if this is indeed the Bevelok system?

This was the only image I had of the take-down system and I assumed it was a bow bolt.

Lastly, are they to be trusted?  Understanding and respecting the knowledge base here I couldn't think of a better place to ask the question.  Bow is 53#@28.

I never know if a topic will create havoc on this site anymore so I'm hoping this one is banine.

Thanks,

Keith

Yep BeveLok. Good system but like you I prefer a Bowbolt. Been awhile since John has built Shrew's and if it still locks up snug I wouldn't worry about it too much, it's probably made it 10 plus years so far. John's work along with Gregg's is superb. Nice one and I'd be more than happy with it.

Yeah, I was excited to get a chance at one of Johns Shrews.  It was built in 2005 and is a Super Shrew Chameleon.

Seems to fit together snug still, but comes apart noticeably easy.  No slop between the two halves.  I think I'll get it strung and keep it that way...

The bow bolt is pretty sweet.

I make sure to protect the threads when the bow is taken down.

About as solid and simple as they come.

It does have a tendency to slip out if bumped hard enough.  I remember discussing the bow bolt system with John at Denton...then the next year he had switched over.  Morrison converted a number of his bevloks into permanent 1 pc bows before selling them as such. Just keep an eye on it as some were great and some not so great...tippit

I have had a few of these bevel locks by McCullough on Shrews and Griffins.I had no problems with them.My brothers Shrew is about 10-12 years old approximatly and still functions very well.

I know some some had a tendancy to slip apart.Even just from the act of shooting the bow.

They were discontinued years ago.

Thanks guys, great information.  I'll keep an eye on it.

This was an older gentlemens goto bow from Texas and health issues required him to sell.  It has some mojo!

I put a brand new SBD 8 strand on it today and took off the recurve contraption string the previous owner had on it.

It appears to be a Bow Hush system like Terry Green's daughters sell.  Aren't these intended for recurves?

Oh wait this is a hybrid so it is a recurve!  Lol!

Anyway, Hapy New Year and straight shooting.
