About 6 or 7 years ago I stopped at a garage sale not far from the house. Guy was cleaning up but said I could look around. Not much left and I was getting ready to leave when I noticed a bow in the corner of the garage. Asked the guy if it was for sale and he said it was. It was a very nice condition 70's era bow. Gentleman explained the bow was his brothers who loved to hunt and had recently passed away at a relatively young age. After talking for awhile I asked the guy what he wanted for the bow. He said you know I am just glad the bow will get back in the woods how about $25.00. I Told him bow was worth more but he was settled on the price. I thanked him and was leaving when he called me back. Came up with a quiver and tab and a few arrows. He also had a picture of his brother in his hand with a deer and the Bear bow to show me. It was kind of taken back a little and kind of felt bad taking the bow.
Well that bow pretty much sat in the corner of my family room for the next 5 years as a decoration. Shot it a couple times but never really considered hunting with it. Two years ago I got invited to a trad shoot so I grabbed the old bear and went. That one shoot has been the start of my new obsession. This year I hunted back and forth with the Bear and a longbow that I picked up this past summer. Every time I took the Bear I just never got a shot.
Well I always like to start out the new year with a day in the woods and today was no exception. I got in my blind way before first light and at 7:15 this nice doe came by and gave me a great shot at around 18 yards. The old Bear threw that arrow true and the 200 grain VPA 3 blade made short order on the deer. After a great blood trail for 60 yards my 2014 doe was found. It was a pretty neat time for me and hard not to think back on the day it became mine. Happy New year TradGang
