Let's start a Small Game Thread
« on: January 02, 2014, 11:34:00 AM »
I dunno if anyone has started one but I thought I would be cool to see some small game kills. Let me start this party!

This one was taken this morning.

nice.  I am jealous of your weather too.  Not certain the current temp, but I doubt it is above 0 and the low for today is / was supposed to be -17.

We also can no longer see any leaves on the ground, even the ones sticking up a foot.

I am gonna try to get out some tomorrow though.

I hunt rabbits with a cocker spaniel.  My first cocker was really good at it. One day he trapped a young one. He held it down, and in his own dog language said, "I am going to hug him and squeeze him and call him George". The bunny lived, but left, with a good bit of dog slobber, well loved and confused. Can you imagine that little rabbit trying to explain that to his bunny buddies?
He died a couple of years back.  I got a 5 year old female that was used as a breeder and had never been out of cage. She is shy and sweet, but she does go after rabbits. This summer she caught a baby, no baby rabbit has ever been that loved up ever.  I am going to take her hunting when it warms up, but I will have to use a bow as she is terrified at the sight of a gun.  She is finding where the bunnies hide on our yard, but I am not too sure how she will react when I shoot one.

Well I tried to add to the kill list but mr bunny and mr squirell alluded me today. A fresh 3 inches last night around the high teens in te woods with 20 mph winds, the animals proved they were smarter than me today.

I haven't started yet but I often hunt squirells after deer season. Actually I'm suprised more guys don't do it. It's fun with a no pressure kind of hunting environment and it sharpens your shooting on game.

Todd,
Not to get off-topic, but would you happen to know if Rockingham Archery club has found a lease for 2014.  One of my favorite shoots, hate they lost their land!

No pics but my small game trophies include one rabbit, one squirrel, one armadillo.  You have to pay attention to which squirels you shoot in my home state.

I heard through the Brush line, that CA BOWHUNTER,shot them Jacks with a 22 and posed his bow with em.
HEHEHE.
Target archery is seeing how far away you can get and still hit the bull's eye. Bowhunting is seeing how close you can get and never miss your mark.
