new longbow (long story pic heavy)

Last year I decided to sell a couple of my bows in order to buy my wife a longbow and also to have another Northern Mist built. Well after selling a few bows and buying my wife a longbow I made the call to Steve last spring and got on the list. I wanted this bow to be made from all Michigan woods in talking to Steve he said that the Ash Lams he had came from a tree on his dads place in the NE. corner of the state. My father owns a portable saw mill and has a dry kiln so I headed over there to see what I could come up with for a riser. After digging through the kiln and barn I found any ugly walnut cant that was cut with a chain saw and looked very old so I asked my dad what the story was with the ugly walnut 6x6. He had forgot that he still had that piece of wood, he had cut it in the 70s from a tree in my great grandparents front yard long before he was in the wood business. Well I loved the story behind the wood so now we just had to open up the cant and see what kind of beauty was inside.

After cutting open the walnut I liked what I saw so I called Steve and asked him what size piece he needed for a riser and we finished talking through my bow order, 70"

Classic walnut riser with ash limbs and green glass. I dropped off the riser would to Steve at the Compton shoot last year and the wait began.
After ordering the bow I was talking to my friend Matt (who I consider a brother) and he thought that the bow woods and the story behind them sounded great and he asked if there was enough walnut to have a second bow built. He ordered a classic built from the same woods only with the outside ash lams stained olive and clear glass. Now we had to wait together.

In mid December My wait was finally over and my new bow was done I'm very pleased with the way it looks and even more happy with the way it shoots.

Really cool bows. Love bows that have some meaning behind them. That's an heirloom you're shooting.

Two special bows with great sentimental value in the woods. Congratulations!
