Help me pick an arrow setup for a selfbow

I have decided this coming fall my hunting bow will be a selfbow that I build and some sort of wood or cane arrow. The bow building part is coming along I guess( I'm glad I have 9 more months to do it.   :D  ).

My question is what arrow and broadhead combo would you guys recommend? I have built some pretty good wood arrows using poplar and cedar. I have been kicking around the idea of river cane as well but have no experience with the stuff. Also with my glass bows I love Treesharks but that probably won't be the case for this setup. trade points or stone aren't out of the question.

What do you guys think? Mid 50's# range bow without a shelf.

Rob, you can't beat a good poplar arrow. They are pretty tough and easy enough to make a good set by next hunting season. Cut in self nocks, use any fletching style(3 fletch, 4 fletch, Cherokee 2 fletch, tangential fletch),haft stone, trades or mount a good 2 blade or Woodsman 3 blade and you will be good to go. These arrows will look good with your selfbow, too.  Cane or hardwood shoot arrows make great arrows but are a lot of work to make and lots of time to make. Get some and start working with them. You might get it worked out in due time.

I'd try 40#-45# spined and leave them long. You can always cut then shorter if necessary.

Thanks Pat. I think I will just build both poplar and cane while I have the time and see what I loke better. I was pretty impressed with poplar the last round.

Poplar has become my favorite dowel shafting. It's only drawback is it is a little lighter than I'm used to but plenty heavy for hunting.
