What to do with damaged arrows(wood)

Hey guys,

  I have dozens of wood arrows with damages knock ends and some have gouges and damaged point ends(2 inches or so from the point).
  I have used a ton for kid arrows already(they now have twice as many arrows as me).If I cut them they are useless for me.

 So what do you guys do with them ?

I was wondering if I cut them could I foot them with aluminum arrow ends(using the insert ans screw in points) and make then long enough to shoot and have the integrity they would need.

Use Reparrows for the pointy end; this will give you a 4" extension, longer break gets a 2 footed footing if I feel like it. Arrow sections make garden stakes, broad head holders for collectors, cedar chips for feather packs and boxes.
An 8", or so, section with a pointy taper is ideal for sticking balloons and things to straw bales. On and on........................

I use ones that are too short to shoot for tomato stakes, fire startes, if they have feathers you can make a fancy boarder fence around your garden, or or you can take splits of cedars and make a nice popourri vase for your wife. I never waste cedar, it all gets used for something somewhere.

If they are Cedar arrows I like to cut them into about 1 foot sections and then split them and lay them in my chest of drawers makes my socks, T shirts and underwear smell good, LOL

I use reparrows for the point end. I once spliced an arrow with a gouge out of it near the point and it held up. I just did it out of curiosity.

I used to cut them shorter and lay them into a vase as a centerpiece on a basement table. Pretty !

If not Too short, make skwerl arrows, or fix them up enough and put them into a bucket at the club for the kids, then encourage others to do the same.

Question:
If you took two, and spliced them (footed) them together??? how much effect does this have on spine?

I dont think it has too much effect as long as it is only a few inches in the front. if you foot a 10" foot it will affect spine I think.

 I am wondering if I can piece an arrow thats broke 2" from the point with another arrow 2" long and use an aluminum arrow as a sleeve and foot it 2"over each piece of wood arrow.If that makes sense.

Tim, I haven't noticed any difference in spine but I have a friend who thought it increased the spine a little.  Arrows in the process of being spliced.  They are glued up and wrapped with electrical tape until the glue dries.  Then the "wings" will be planed off and varnished and ready for squirrel hunting.

I use them for mixing up epoxy as I like massey finish and use several coats. Also started using reparrows and really rather do that when I can. Used them to help make a log church for my daughters school assignment. Probably the best is letting my kids and nieces practice cresting on them, rough em up and let them go they really love to do that.

Its generally not worth the effort to repair a broken arrow. Use them to stir the finish for your next set.

I foot them for rabbits.  I simply use the jig for points and plane off one side anf gorilla glue another on.  Chuck up when dry and sandpaper them smooth( extra oozed out glue)

I shoot stumps with them until they are destroyed.

I like to shoot them high in the air in a safe direction, assuming they are still long enough to do so, and watch them as they fly.  It always amazes me, as much time as I spend tuning the arrow and selecting the right point, how beautifully an arrow usually flies with the point broken off.

Some of those arrows could be easily repaired with my Reparrows.

I used to make two-foot splices to repair my arrows, but since I like shooting a little better than making archery tackle, I came up with the Reparrows. I use them  all the time myself.
