which clear coat for bohning dip
« on: September 14, 2007, 05:42:00 PM »
Okay here's the problem.  I just dipped two dozen fir shafts for hunting.  Went and opend my bohning clear coat and found it all gelled up   :banghead:     I'm not entirely mad, as I do not plan to use Bohing after this round, the fumes are just too much!  Anyway, what can I use to seal my shafts now.  I dipped in Bohning stain, and fletch lac crown dip.  Would a water based minwax sealer be okay, or some fletco varathne??

I use minwax polyurethane on my arrows and seems to work great for me.

You don't need to dip over the bohning paint, however I would recommend a good oil base spar varnish over you stain, two to three coats.

Thanks for the info guys.  I wasn't too worried about the paint, but as Bob pointed out, the stained area, I felt needed to be sealed.  I think next year I will use acrylics.  Easy clean up and no odour.
