Mahaska bows
« on: January 23, 2014, 08:54:00 PM »
Looking for opinions on the Mahaska bows. I like walnut limbs with maple cores. Especially interested in these woods in a flat bow model and what you think about the flat bow and it's design and performance. How would you rate it on a scale of 1 to 10. Please PM me with any negatives if you have any. Thanks Gang

I have had several and I liked them. Never had a flat bow but shot a couple. The ones I shot were heavy.....to heavy for me to make a good judgment call. They are a good hunting bow......but you can't compare them to a Hill, and I know you like Hills.

Kent Ostrem builds a fine bow.  I had one of his recurves.  Handsomely made/ elegant and shoot nice.  He uses some real pretty southwestern cedar.  I tell you, if you really like walnut limbs and maple cores you should give Leon Stewart a call, just sayin.

Mahaskas are great bows a working man can afford! I had one of Kent's 50's style  recurves  with walnut limbs and shedua riser it shot fantastic. Walnut is great bow wood that few people know about. For limbs as well as risers. You very rarely see them in the Classifieds. That right there has to say something!

bentpole, I agree, I have one long bow with walnut lambs and hickory cores. One of the smoothest drawing bows I own. The walnut riser looks great too. Can't beat the looks of walnut in my opinion!

Have a recurve in the shop.  I shoot and like it.  Solid bow. I mostly shoot longbows, but like it

Never had one, never seen one in person, never shot one....also NEVER heard one bad thing about them, but they have been a valued Sponsor of this site for a long time.

Also have heard nothing but great things about their javalina hunts.

I had a recurve of his with a Goncalo Alves riser and ENGLISH walnut limbs that I sent him....it was a beauty...shot very well and very quiet. My friend had one with all walnut lams.....nice bow...very plain but shot very well. Then a third buddy had both a recurve and a flat bow of his...40# and shot very consistant..Kent makes a fine bow for the money...
