Finally ordered a new JD Berry hunting bow
« on: January 28, 2014, 08:08:00 AM »
Excuse me for gloating LOL!  After thinning my bow collection I finally called James Berry and ordered a new Taipan long bow for hunting next year.  I had a wonderful converation with Mr. Berry.  He sure is very knowledgeable about archery and was most helpful in picking the right specs for me.  It will be 64", 2" longer handle (like the Appollo), and 45# at 28" draw.  And of course those Berry nocks.  Black glass and James is picking out the wood.  It should be done with plenty of time left before deer season.

Thanks again James!

Trouble is, the shelf is going to be on the wrong side. Otherwise, it would be a great bow   :)

Ron,
You will not be disappointed that I can promise you.  I have been a straightlimbed fan and specifically JD Berrys offerings but the Taipan I got (used) a month or two back has really blown me away. Just everything you could ask for in a 1 piece longbow. Super quiet, quick, dead in the hand, point able , light.
I could go on and on but ill stop there lol. I wouldn't want to make the wait any harder.

I just visited James last week.  I ordered a Taipan for myself and another scaled down version for my 4 year old grandson.  Black glass on belly, brown on face, M. Ebony handles with bamboo laminations and berry nocks.  Mine is 66 inch and 57# @ 27 inches.  I got to shoot both a morning star and a Taipan while I was there - both were great shooters.
Everything has a price - the more we accept, the more the cost

Caribow Tuktu ET 53# @ 27 Inches
Thunderhorn takedown longbow 55# @ 27
Lots of James Berry Bows

I am absolutely Loving My Taipan! The bow is really flat shooting. I mean it man, this thing is wicked. Like others say about the bow, it is true. Brian and James said that I would be impressed, I am.

I'll turn the bow over and over, end over end and just look at it. Then shoot it again for 50 times.
I thought I might have some trouble stringing/unstringing the bow with the berry nocks, but I don't. Easy on /off.

I really want to take the bow in the woods, but don't want to ding it up lol, but I will. It's a tool, and I am going to use it as such.

James is really cool to talk to. I enjoy listening to him. A man with a boatload of knowledge and wise cracks!

Good luck on your wait time. You wont be dissapointed. His wood choices are excellent, James is a true artist.

Ron, what was the reason for going to the longer riser on the Taipan?

Sir as others have said u wont be disappointed. The tai pan is an amazing bow. Have had one for years now. Has an amazing cast to it. I have been thinking about a 64" the one i have is 66. Tell me what u think when u get that bad dude. And if it's your first berry bow, better sit down nd brce yourself when opening. The craftsmanship is jaw dropping.

Thanks again for all the positive comments.  As far as the longer riser, I guess I am used to a longer riser and was thinking it may be a little more forgiving to bad form, like when I see a nice buck while hunting!
