Who taught the wilhem bros to shoot?  Was it Howard . And why did ken or walt shoot from the hip ? Man they could really hit them maybe better than Howard ! Check out the clips on the other site . T. A. S.   :

Ther were certainly aquainted but I don't know that Howard Hill taught them.  They were doing movies shorts in the 1930's.  Watching Walt shoot off the hip is astonishing.  He got busted up in an auto wreck and couldn't lift the bow.

One brother shooting a collar button off the other's head!  Sheesh!

I'd say they were contemporaries more than students.

I remember Fred Anderson telling stories about them even though I don't think he knew them personally.  He said it was the older brother Walt who shot from the hip/waist because a bad injury early in life kept him from raising his arm.

Who taught them?  Heck, I do not know, but bet they were self taught like so many in that era.  They made their own bows and arrows and just did a lot of shooting.  They began at a time when folks like Pope, Young, and Ishi began to generate a ton of interest in archery.

I cannot imagine kids today shooting cigarettes out of each others mouths or buttons off the top of heads.      

These two guys had to be a couple cards short of a full deck.

Wow, no film tricks. I love those old black and whites. Where does one go to get volunteers.  The match and the cigarette and no fixed anchor point. My target is 4' by 4', my garage would run and hide, if I tried that with a low floating draw.
