A new Wild Horse Creek and (redone) Schafer
« on: January 30, 2014, 07:11:00 PM »
I recently rec'd my newest Wild Horse Creek Kestrel from Mike Dunaway.  It's a beauty as he outdid himself again.  I stopped in his shop to visit him on a hunt in October with my brother.  And after talking (and more laughing if you know him) and looking at his stuff, my brother and I ordered bows.  I ordered a Kestrel longbow 60" 52@28 and my brother ordered a 54" 52@28 Mariah Recurve.  Both turned out awesome.

I also had some work done on a 56" 46@28 Macasser Schafer Silvertip with Buff Tips by Dave.  I had Dave narrow the limbs at the tips and refinish the whole bow.  It didn't need refinished but the finish on it wasn't Daves.  So I told Beth I want Daves finish because I know it will last.  After the refinsh I only lost 1 pound to 45@28.

The Kestrel has Waterfall Bubinga face and Bocote Belly with Bamboo cores.  The riser is Bocote and Wenge with a compass.  The sheephorn riser overlay and tips are the first time Mike has done that.  He was nervous but it turned out great.  He even called me a week after I got it to make sure I was happy.  Now I just have to wait for the 2pc longbow and 3pc recurve I have on order:)  LOL!

I also had a silver inlay moose antler inlayed into another Tip.  Dave is doing some stuff to that bow now.  The riser grip and shape are the pattern for my new Tip on order which should be done in a month or so.

Thanks for posting the pics Danny.

Keith, You are on the list for a 2 piece Kestrel?

I thought I heard Mike wasn't making 2 piece bows anymore.  His bows have always appealed to me.

Yours is beautiful. the compass is a nice touch!
Relax,

You'll live longer!

Cyclic Rivers-

I believe that Keith and Dave are just having fun.  You are correct, he's not making them anymore.  Keith keeps begging Mike to, but to no avail.

Keith-
I sold mine to my nephew, dhermon85, with one caveat.  That I get first right of refusal if he ever wants to sell it.  If he weren't family, I would still have it.

Great looking Kestrel!

I see someone already posted pics of the WHC. Here are the pics of Keith's 56" Silvertip. I already told him I have first dibs if he ever sells it, LOL.

Before it was refinished:

After the refinish with the tips narrowed:

Another pic of the 56" with his Bighorn and WHC:

And next to M'bogo, which I regret selling to him almost every day, LOL. But she has a good home.

Great looking bows. That Bocote is some amazing looking stuff, Mike makes one heck of a bow. I am looking forward to seeing Mike at the KBA banquet in February so I can shoot a few of his bows. I am seriously thinking about ordering another one.....
