Did I hear an Echo ???
« on: January 30, 2014, 09:02:00 PM »
A while back I got in touch with Chuck at Two Tracks and visited with him about one of his longbows.  We came up with a good set of specifications for me and the wait began. Well, guess what, the bow showed up this Monday!

He used his walnut laminations and a chicen (sp) riser. The brown glass on the belly and back really make for an attractive package. The bow turned out about 62 pounds at my draw length.

I put a string on it and tied on a nock set and it was shooting my bare shafts so well I didn't try anything else.

A farmer friend of mine allows me to hunt from time to time on a piece of his ground. Surrounding the crop land is a very deep creek that is wooded on both sides.

This evening I walked along the top bank while looking ahead for any critters. I hadn't been at it too long when I saw a small group of pigs feeding. They were all scattered out along the steep banks on both sides. It was difficult to close in on them with so many eyes. I think these pigs are relying more on their eyesight than they used too.. They almost always spot something out of place, me !

I probably worked on getting in on them for 30 minutes or so. A bunch of little 30-40 pounders came my way with a nice sow pulling up drag. I let the little ones go by all the while concerned they were going to get my wind before the bigger sow got within range. However, she finally started moving along with the rest and pulled up about 20-25 yards from me. She was sharply downhill and quartering to me just a little. I noticed that she saw me as I drew the longbow but it was too late. The arrow caught her just in front of her near shoulder and exited in the short ribs on the other side.

When I released the arrow the shot was extremely quiet and the wound must have been painless and she did little more than flinch and slowly trotted away down the creek. She didn't go 15 yards or so and collasped then rolled down the creek bank until a tree caught her. Wow !

You Sir are a killer!  I love it and seriously think I need to move to a state with hogs just for the hunting opportunities!

Just as I thought. I knew the word would get out on the Echo. It truly is one amazing longbow. It is so quiet, it is spooky. That is a beautiful hog, Pat.
