Taste like chicken...
« on: September 16, 2007, 04:15:00 PM »
We have all heard the phrase "tastes like chicken" answered when one asks what something taste like.  Seeing as how Sunday's are always boring for a police officer on a college campus, I began wondering about this today.  As I thought about all the foods people referred to as tasting like chicken I had a eureka moment.  It seems to me that when someone has never tried a dish made from a reptile or amphibian it is said to taste like chicken.  Be it snake, alligator, frog the list goes on.  That being said it has been proven, at least in the south, that natives have been shooting (with there traditional bows, had to throw this in hear to tie it in to trad hunting)eating reptiles (especially alligators) since the beginning.  It may be just me, but I think that a reptile dinner was probably eaten long before a chicken dinner.  So that being said, I think it's time we set the world straight in regards to the tastes like chicken cliche.  You know, there are many evolutionary scientist who believe that birds evolved from dinosaurs because of bone structures and densities and the apparent evidence of feathers appearing on the last of the dinosaurs.  If that is the case, would T-Rex have tasted like chicken?  All I am trying to say is what if chicken does not taste like chicken?  I think chicken taste like alligator, or maybe rattlesnake, or possibly even the aforementioned T-Rex?  Who knows, I just wanted to try to give this great group of folks something entirely useless and mindless to ponder over and hopefully, just maybe draw a laugh or two.  Hope all are having a beautiful Sunday!

I personally don't know of anything I have eaten other than birds that I would ever say "tastes like chicken" about.

I have eaten alligator, rattlesnake, turtle, possum, racoon, and about anythign else you can mention and I don't think any of them tasted like 'ol narrow face'. Each of them to me has their own flavor....frog legs is one that comes to mind right away...they don't taste ANYTHING like chicken to me...they resemble chicken, if it were a skinny chicken...but they don't remotely taste like a chicken leg to me.

That could be just me though.

Everyone please do not think that all police officers have a vivid imagination like that.     :biglaugh:

I wouldn't have the imagination to accuse a law officer of that.  :saywhat:

I had a young squirrel once that tasted like chicken, or rattlesnake, I guess. Bones were harder though.

Actually chicken doesn't even taste like chicken, that's why lots of things taste like chicken...errr, or don't taste like any thing??  They only taste like what ever you cover them in or cook them with.

At least that was my theory before I actually saw it typed...Now I'm not even sure what I mean    :knothead:

McNuggets never tasted like chicken, and chicken fried steak tastes like hamburger, but I would guess the dinosaurs were mighty tasty because all you find now are piles of rib bones.

I'm with you Allen. Yard walkers probably taste like something else in the wild, but since the great lizards are now extinct and none of us ever get our fill of gator or snake, we have to settle on a "less filling" barnyard variety instead of the full bodied version our forefathers et. Chicken tastes more like squirrel, especially with gravy, salt, and pepper. hehe (;

I'm not certain, but I think that T-Rex would have tasted more like brontosaurus...they're kinda "gamey"-tasting, ya know.

NDTerminator, you are right, I was very bored...  :knothead:    :o  .

Wapiti, I agree with you on the chicken tasting like squirrel, although my wife will not willingly eat squirrel, she has eaten several "chicken" quesadilla's that originally had a grey bushy tail. Yum yum.

TonyW, I never thought about the fact that dino's were extinct, I think this may blow the meteor impact story completely out of the water.  I am going to contact the discovery channel. LOL  :biglaugh:  Thanks everyone for humoring my sillyness.  Take care.
