A new tracking dog - Bavarian Mountain Hound
« on: February 08, 2014, 08:29:00 PM »

Meet Molly - my new Mountain Hound.  Just got home from an all day road trip to meet up with the breeder and pick her up.  Had to drive through a blizzard on the way back and she is just getting acclimated and barking at my other dog.

Mid-Michigan bow hunters I will keep you posted on her progress and look forward to tracking some whitetails this fall.  These are pics the breeder sent me and all I have so far but more to follow soon.  She is sleeping in my lap right now.

Great little dog.

They are suppose to be special but I am green to the tracking dog thing.  I do have hides and blood in the freezer and have been researching and planning for a long time.  We will see

That's a beautiful dog!  I've never heard of that breed, I'll have to learn about them.  Congratulations!

Nice looking pup.  He sure has a big set of paws.  If you want a good book to read on the subject check out Tracking Dogs for finding wounded deer by John Jeanneney

That's a good looking dog right there! Mine is just a mutt but I've had a lot of fun using her blood tracking. Bet you have a good one there!

Jerry helped me find her and she is already growing into those paws.  Those pics are couple weeks ago and she is getting longer and leaner.

here she is this morning - and already growing into her feet.  kind of looks like a big Dachshund at this point.  If she is 1/2 as good a tracking as she is a lover I will be more than pleased.  She likes to have her head in your lap all the time.  This is kind of breed specific as they are known to be Velcro dogs with their leader but I am sure as her confidence grows she will get a little more independent(I hope)  I am used to the dog on the other end of the couch ignoring me  :)

Good looking dog. How big will she get? Don't think your other dog likes having his picture taken.

That's a beautiful hound Bobby. Best of luck with her. I bought a wire haired dachshund this past December and have been working with her. Hope by next season she will be ready to find some deer. Good luck and keep us updated!
