Larry Surtees.....pic
« on: February 14, 2014, 10:37:00 PM »
With this 21" of fresh snow on the ground, I had time on my hands to clean out and pack up my fall hunting stuff while waiting on the plow guy.

Digging through my fanny pack, the last item I pulled out was my Schrade knife and custom alligator sheath built for me by Larry Surtees. I carry this knife all the time and it's hard not to think about his son Chris.

For the hundred time...Thank you Larry...

That's awesome Joe, I shared a bear amp with Larry 2 years ago in Quebec.  I told him about the bow rack that Chris gave me.  I told Larry that I was sorry that I never had the chance to meat Chris.  Larry's a great guy, we really hit it off.

I haven't seen Larry around much.  I think about him and Chris every time i take Chris' quiver hunting with me.

I daydream about the critters hes killed and what the blood on it is from.

Larry is a true craftsman, his gator leather goods have always been nothing short of incredible.

Thanks Joe. You either have ESP or ESPN!!!
I was looking at my gator string carrier Larry built yesterday,
unzipped it and swapped out a string.

I hunted this year with a hat that belonged to Chris. Seems every time I wore the hat I saw deer so needless to say I wore it a lot. Had 2 shots this year........first time in years. I'll keep wearing the hat!

I purchased or traded for some broad-heads with Chris just before his untimely accident. Took those broad-heads with me this passed September elk hunting, and will use them next season for deer, and for some reason I can't explain, I kept the box Chris sent those broad-heads in, even though I never knew him other than the trade mentioned above, and all the nice things said here about him.

Chris did me a favor and marked a map of Fort Lewis for me when I was stationed there. He mailed it and it went to the wrong address.  An anti-hunting liberal wrote nasty comments on it andsent Iit back to him. Ha. That's the Seattle area for you.
