Hog bait question...
« on: February 20, 2014, 01:36:00 PM »
So this morning I made up 2 ice chests of mash to use on an upcoming hunting trip. In each chest I used a bag of corn, a half gallon of milk, a 6 pack of beer, a packet of yeast, and a packet of strawberry jello. I also had some store bought hog bait, both dry and some thick fruity smelling liquid that I split between the ice chests. Well, I forgot to add a gallon or two of water to each chest before I taped them up, do you think I need to cut them back open and add the water?

I would have just put the corn at my stand locations while I drank the 6 pack of beer brought all the rest of the stuff home.

IMO you are overthing it..... good luck though.

You need more about 4 more packs of yeast, 5 lbs. of apples and 10 lbs. of sugar to each ice chest.  put water over the corn and wait about a week but be sure the chests are not air tight. The gas expansion of the mash will make something give and it might not be pretty.

Call Big Jim.  He did my recipe recently and it worked for him.

Milk and juice should provide enough liquid.  Leave a hole for gas to come out.

Hey Jesse I used to pastor a church in Folsom - across from Jenkins sawmill - there are a lot of deer in that area - area the hogs getting bad?
