antler dust /lung problems

sorry this is 'off topic' but ime a bit concerned!i am an athsmatic and have allways suffered with chest infections,but of late ie the last 3 weeks ive had a beuty that i cant shift,had antibiotics and have been ov 50mg a day of steroids.now heres what i am after,some info on the diseases that can be got from inhaling ANTLER DUST,i mentioned it to my doctor but he didnt know what i was on about,ime sure ive read here about the subject,it was something to do with dormant spores in the antlers.
i hope its just a bugger of a chest infection and nowt worse!

don't you wear a mask while you are sanding/cutting stuff? With asthma, I would think a respirator would be the 'de rigeur' for you.

I've never heard of problems as you describe, but I would bet the antler itself is enough of an irritant given your condition...I wouldnt go another day without a respirator if I were you...lots cheaper than antibiotics too.

cheers ray,ime gonna invest in a respirator tommorow! i thaught if it was in a well vetilated area ide be ok! still,live and learn eh?! lucky for me we have a national health service here!

Here's something I used to do when mounting birds and didn't want to breath the chemicals from the picking and tanning.  I built a box with a screen on top and mounted a bathroom fart fan under it. I actually had quarter inch hardware cloth and them the window screen.  On the under side was a funnel and a dryer hose to outside. I could get up close and the fan pulled all the noxious odors away-it also pulled out dust particles.  An idea to go along withteh respirator to protect your health.  Not sure about how much dust you can pull through the screen, but worthy of a try
