Full Metal Jacket- knitting anyone

I have heard several fellas talking about how much they love the full metal jacket arrows so I decided to get some to try out. Well, like I usually do I jumped in before testing the depth and ordered some. I happened to be driving by a sporting goods store a few days later and decided to go look at what I had purchased, needless to say I was dumb-founded to say the least, im not sure there is room on these things for feathers they are so small in diameter, there is a good chance ill not even unpack them and sell them. Somebody help convince me to try them anyway, they are fmj nfused camo 300 spine. Need any knitting done!

There's lots of great reviews on them on here I know Steve O did some testing which would make you a believer but also people's thoughts as far as the penetration they get on a animal is exceptional also..HOPE THIS HELPS!

Don't worry about the small diameter and feathers. I have some Beman MFX Classics that are the same diameter, 9/32". Mine have plenty of helical and plenty of room. I also made up some helical fluflu with them.

 

 

I have some of these listed in the classifieds if anyone is interested. Reason being is because they're not made anymore and I've gone to a cheaper arrow, as in Big Jim's blems.

I just switched over to them.  I was also astounded by how skinny they are, but I assure you there is room for at least 3 feathers.  I would encourage anyone to try them.  Mine are 400's cut 29.5 inches with 250 grains up front.  They out perform any other arrow I have shot from my 53@28 foley recurve.  Tune them properly and I don't think you will be disappointed.  Good luck!!

I normally shoot goldtip 75/95 and they are tough as nails, how do these hold up, any special considerations when tuning, installing inserts, etc.

More pictures...the first is a Easton Axis Traditional which is the same in diameter. I have found all of the Axis products to be very tough. You can "dent" the FMJ's, but in my experience it doesn't affect performance at hunting ranges. I use low temp hot melt for inserts while tuning, never had any issues. Some just wrap the inserts in saran wrap and "press fit" the inserts while tuning, but I've never personally tried it. Once tuning is done you can clean them up and use the provided epoxy. Just make sure if you use a slow cure epoxy (like the one provided), that you lay them horizontal to dry. Otherwise the inserts can slide in the shaft and cause issues.

I have been using them for several years now in my wheel bow.  Have not made the switch with my trad gear but I do use a small dia. arrow in the Beeman ICS Hunters.  I have no problem with a 5" helical on my shafts.

I like the small diameter arrows. They fly really well, having less surface area to be blown off course. That said, I shoot the GT blems from BigJim. I call it killin on a budget.

Great arrows, if you looking for tough heavy shaft that will out penetrate any of the monster shafts (grizzly stick, hammer heads etc) the FMJ dangerous game shafts at 17grns/inch are hard to beat.

Skinny shaft out penetrates big diameter shaft everytime.

The Injexxion is even smaller diameter and people manage to get fletching on them

You can fletch i have been shooting them for years. I have ever four fletched them.  

That 300 will need some weight out front but you will get flying.

I use the FMJ's in 400 spine, and have no problem with fletching 4" 4-fletch helical at all.  Plenty of room.  Really like the FMJ's; only downside to me is price.

I think the price of fmjs is very fair for what you get. I am also a believer in the micro diameter shafts. The weight is also much more accomodating to traditional shooters who don't necassarily want efoc. For those who want to try the injexions A&H sneaked out a deep six glue on adapter so you can use traditional broadheads.
