please respond but do not use for your own benefit
« on: February 27, 2014, 06:51:00 PM »
Are there trends that I can exploit to find a new - used bow for myself?

When using the classified what has been your best luck to post a bow to sell or buy a bow.  What has been the most productive time of day, month, year.

I know by exposing this I will likely now have changed the trends!  bummer, but still interested in the results.

Lots of bows there now, but I'm looking for something specific.  tried the WTB thing many times, but just going to wait now, but still interested when my chances are best.

If you are looking for something specific you have to just keep checking every day. Some bows only come avalible on a rare basis and dont last long when they do.................

In the past I bought different bows in Spring/Summer then settled into one for hunting by fall/winter.
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways-BOW in one hand-ARROWS in the other-Body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming-WOO HOO! WHAT A RIDE!

Don't try to get your money back on a bow you've put a lot of miles on, don't charge for your memories, don't charge a mojo fee and pictures, pictures, pictures.

Thank goodness for guys who don't do pics, They've kept me from bankruptcy.

Just some random thoughts on the Classifieds.

When selling:

Buying a new bow and putting into the classifieds soon after receiving it is a loser?  Believe it!     :knothead:

Pictures will help move a bow faster than any narrative you can formulate.

Certain bows sell themselves and don't have a season or best time to sell. For example any dark matter Centaur will sell all year long. Habu bows seem very popular too unless they're lefty!
Silvertip longbows, Jack Harrisons, Salukis, Griffins, Shrews to name a few.

Yes, economy and other factors contribute to disposable incomes, but with a membership of over 40K there will always be folks on here with some dough to spare.

When buying:

Sometimes you got to pull the trigger quick or the chance will be gone.  The 3 pc Heartstopper is making me jumpy right now.

WTB, works for some, but I can't tell you how many times I've seen WTB a certain bow and then a bow of the exact make and spec gets put up for sale.  So continue to read the new posts and not just your WTB ad.

Lastly, what happens in private messages stays in private messages!

Like said above, certain bows sell no matter when they are put up for sale.  That's just a fact.

It is the whole supply vs. demand...

Certain bow brands sell quicker then others, and for more money then others... That has a lot to do with the popularity of the particular brand.  Word of mouth on the boards or advertising from the bowyer or company that makes the bow has a lot to do with each particular bows popularity.

Also, as stated above, time of year has some influence on bow buying/selling...  Basically when folks have more money bows sell better...  Or, when hunting season is approaching, more people are looking to buy...

WTB adds do get noticed by the folks who frequent the classifieds.  Some of us will file that information and if we see one for sale will go back and help a guy out... by introducing the two parties to each other...  But, if the bow you are wanting to buy is rare... it will take time.

Tell folks why you are selling.  Too much poundage (my last bow), too short for me, I have archery A.D.D., etc.

First, look in the Pow Wow for those that start theads saying that they found the "last bow I'm ever gonna buy."  Save and guard that screen name as if it were gold.

From that day forward, do a search every day for their screen name in the classifieds.

You will find more half price custom bows than you can shake a stick (probably one of their's) at.

Lots of pictures when selling.
Think about the price, as compared to other bows that are similar when selling.
Although many people say that a name on a bow doesn't matter to them, it often does.
Look a bow over carefully so you can disclose any minor defect, if any.
Most importantly of all; whether selling or buying, you cannot communicate too much. Date money arrives, date bow goes out, date bow is received.

if your looking for something special, post a "want to buy"  but you better watch it close not to get it bought out from under you, . also if you do find something use PM's to discuss it. and in selling like others have said, be reasonable on the price and give a good honest description with good pictures and don't make the seller jump through a bunch off hoops...
