Well, it all started about 2 years ago. My neighbors brother, an avid compound shooter, was visiting next door when he saw me get out of my truck with a longbow in hand. He ventured over to ask me about the bow and I was more than happy to discuss shooting and hunting with traditional equipment. He showed some interest and mentioned he might like to give it a try.
Well, a couple more months went by and we would see each other on ocassion. We always talked traditional bows. Spring was coming so I invited him to go the the BBTC (Baltimore Bowman Traditional Classic). When he showed up I introduced him to Steve Turay of Northern Mist Longbows. My new friend, Ed, was intriqued and by the end of the shoot he had his first trad bow ordered. A Northern Mist Classic.
A few months later as the new hunting season was starting his new longbow arrived. He sure wasn't ready to hunt with it so he took out his trusty compound for the season to put meat in the freezer. After he had some venison stored he decided to take out the longbow to give it a try. Needless to say, a few missed opportunities and a couple of humbling experiences and Ed was enjoying the experience but loosing some confidence.
I invited him to join with some buddies of mine for Sunday 3D shooting with the longbow through the spring to start developing some form and shooting skills.
Well long story short. My new traditional buddy killed his first whitetail with a longbow this past Saturday. He called me thrilled to death. He had shot a doe but you would have thought it was a huge 10 point.
I was kind of thrilled myself. My new traditional friend is now hanging up the compound. He's been bitten by the bug and I'm glad I could set the trap.
