ordering woodies this week
« on: March 02, 2014, 05:32:00 PM »
Well trying to get back into woodies for next years season.
I may have asked before but I forget (old)
What would be the best spine for a 50lb Savannah at 28.5?
Shooting FF string and a 125 grain head

I was shooting 2018's at 28.75 and they seemed to do good.
Also any recommendations of who to order straightest shafts

Thanks gang!

I'm not an arrowsmith, but I've had good flight with 55-60lb spine using bows from 47 to 60lb draw weight. I use 125/150gr points.

Give Steve at Surewood Shafts a call. He could hook you up easy with the info you have

With 125 grn up  front Id' say your right on the borderline between 50-55 and 55-60 spine. At 28.5 you will probably see better flight with 55-60 but may want a little heavier point weight for optimum flight. I agree with Frank V.

That's how I feel too,  I'd rather have a bit too stiff than a bit too weak. A heavier point can cure the too stiff & I personally think a too stiff arrow, wihtin reason, will fly better than a too weak arrow.

I'm shooting 55-60's with 145g up front at about 60#, I have yet to paper tune but I like how they fly.

X2 on what Steadman said!!  Excellent shafts and service. Also David at wilderness custom arrows builds top notch arrows with sure woods!!! They really know their stuff.

Slickhead, those 2018's have an equivalent spine of about 67# as I recall. I'd go with 29.5" bop with your 28.5" draw length and 60/65's. If you want to try a couple of test arrow just let me know.
