Help design My PLX
« on: March 08, 2014, 04:30:00 PM »
Gonna order Me a PLX T/D Mon. I know I want all black, overlays and tips, no red. I know I want beavertail grip. Just can't decide on the woods. Can't mentally picture all the possible combo's. Any suggestions or pics ?

David-  Good luck choosing!!    :banghead:   There is some awesome ziricote/myrtle burl; bocote; and tiger myrtle  in his on that black widow gallery thread for sure.  BW is getting in some INCREDIBLE exotic veneers anymore.  Very impressed with the character in their wood veneers.  Riverrat 2 has some of the sweetest osage veneers on his PLX that I have ever seen.  If you haven't seen his yet search it, unreal is the only thing to say.  Turned out awesome.  Might just have to get you a few to cover all the combo possibilities!  Make sure to share when you figure it out and get one!

I've become a recent fan of African Blackwood. Works well if you're going for a mostly black/dark bow, and the grain will light up in the sun.

Never seen it, but Roger at BW suggested it for the riser with B&W Ebony veneers.

Here's an inside pic that doesn't do it justice. An outside pic will be better but it's been cloudy here the last couple days. This is a Holm Made Osprey with African Blackwood riser and black glass limbs.

Ordered a PSR a week or so ago, they have some nice myrtle burl lams .  They have one less set now , it will have Sedua riser no red.

Riverrat2 has the coolest looking BW bows that I have ever seen. It may be that I'm partial to the snake skinned bows.

If I were to be ordering one, I'd go far the PL ll Graybark without any red and add Eastern Diamondback skins on the back and a little on the belly like Riverrat2. That's the only combo IMHO that could hang with Rat's BW's  :)

If I recall you were looking for a 62" bow... My PLX is 66" and I used it all season and never once wished it was shorter. The extra few inches just seems to be way more forgiving than I ever imagined it could be. I have never had a better season to add to that

Good luck Brother!!!

Should be alooker. I've trimmed my herd down to one bow. 58" PSRX T/D B&W Ebony, no red. Now I want a PLX to compliment it that will hopefully shoot the same arrow combo. Then I'll be at 2 bows with T/D option and same grip on both.

That a tough one to choose,I have a PLX T/D in tiger myrtle with a beavertail grip that I think has beautiful looking wood.My buddy got PLX T/D last year in hondurus rosewood that has some beautiful grain.I sold a PLX bacote last year that was pretty also, nice grain. There are so many choices and combo's it is hard to choose.Have you looked at their website stock bows, they have some nice looking woods and not just in the PL section.I often think of what woods I would like in another Black Widow. So many to choose,I like your idea with all black and no red.I would like to see a Widow in leopardwood, that is one wood I was thinking about for myself.

I'm going to test drive one soon.  If it works out, I'll probably go with dark pau ferro riser and dark yew limbs.  No red.  Yew stripe in place of the red glass.

Davey I'd bet a Blacked out Widow with B&W Ebony veneers,or skinned would be very unique. The last time I spoke with those guys, they were not putting Bullsnake skins on anymore. But I always thought Bullsnakes and B&W Ebony were like peas&carrots. I love my 66"PLX. It cost me an extra $75 for the belly overlays done in the skins.

Here is the Osage/Copperhead bow Don was talking about. Toby E. from Black Widow had made one like this one for himself a few years back. I saw it at the Compton event, and fell in love. Had him build a twin. Enjoy you PLX Davey.  rat'

Don! Yes and yes. Buddy I sold the Osage one to my good friend, and hunting partner Gary. It is a 64" and I really didn't need 2. Plus these things don't come cheap. Don,I had to sell it. Gary and I swap bows like fishing stories,I'll probably get it back in the future I'd bet. You still have that Bocote Shrew Don ol'buddy?
