What carbon arrow would you recommend for a #42 at 28 recurve bow. I plan on using this bow for deer. Thanks.

My draw length is 27in, for example what easton arrow would you want 400 or 340?

you will want a .500 spine.... id say go with a 30" ce 150 heritage....you'll need 100 grain brass inserts and at least 125 grain head..maybe 150 grain... sounds like a good question for shawn leonard..the carbon guru...

How does the bras insert work, does in take the place of your regular insert. Would you still want the arrow at 30" with my 27" draw length? Do you pick the spine of the arrow the same way you do for a compound? Sorry for all the questions.

The Easton Epics will fit nicely...AD yellows with weight might go...other 500/150's will need plenty of weight and need full length (if at all).
The type of bow, center shot, etc...will narrow the above down a bit.

Carbon Vapor 2000's would work nicely.

In my opinion the .500 spine will be too stiff. I suggest you try the Gold Tip Entrada 600. We have bare shaft tuned many bows around 40 lbs, nearly all require the 600 at full length, 30".

What are the 100 grain brass inserts mentioned in the post above? How much should the total weight of the arrow be? So the arrow should be 30" for my draw length?

Don't worry too much about length (just make sure it is not too short) I think the heritage will be too heavy for you with a 42lb bow unless you want to shoot 12 gpp. I also think 500 spined easton shafts may be too stiff. Try a 600 spine shaft and I think it will work fine and give you around a 400 425 grain arrow with a 125 grain tip. I shoot 48lb at my draw length and I have shot all of the following arrows sucessfully
Heritage 150 125 grain tip 30.5"
Heritage 250 175 grain tip 30.5"
CX 4560 125 Grain tip 30.5"
CX 4560 lites 125 grain tip 30"
Beman MFX 500 125 grain tip 31"
Easton Axis 500 125 grain tip 31"

Brass inserts are available from most traditional archery suppliers they are 50 and 100 grain and will fit most easton, cx and gt arrows. Also for CX and GT arrows you can get brass screws in 20 grain and 50 grain increments that screw into the back fo the CX and GT inserts, And I forgot to add GT 3555 to the above post. Most bow manufactors suggest not to shoot an arrow less than 9 gpp. In your case that would be 360 grains with a 27" draw on a 42lb bow.
