I have killed more deer with a selfbow than any other form of arrow launcher. I spent a number of years on the dark side before I returned to traditional archery.

Tools, you can make bows with a minimum of tools. I have everything, band saw, belt sander, jointer and every hand tool known to man. With simple tools I would have to spend a couple more hours making a bow than I would with all my power tools, only a couple of hours.

Here is my basic arsenal;

Aggressive rasp, half round file, chain saw file for nocks, scrapers and a draw knife. I do have some more aggressive scrapers than the cabinet scrapers shown. One is a half pair of large scissors and the other is a Mystic longbow scraper, both work very well for hogging off wood.

Not a great picture of the Osage selfbow, it was a great day in November a few years ago.

I knew I should not have opened this thread...... I am so swamped with far to many obligations as it is....but I feel the calling, it's like a distant whisper.......

Anyway, I don't think anything can get better than for a person to craft their own bow and arrows from native materials--- my hat is off to you Gents for keeping the tradition alive and inspiring the rest of us.

My old fishing self bow. A Kurt Brisky osage. I have a new fishing bow in the mail as we speak but I killed a bunch of fish with this one.
