Opinions Needed for New String On a BW Recurve
« on: March 16, 2014, 07:43:00 PM »
I have a Black Widow recurve model SAV 58" 50@28" that I have tried many different strings on. I tried Fastflight, a skinny fastflight made by a friend, and a 50% fastflight with 50% B50, but none of them shot quiet like a 15 strand B50. I am now needing another string and have been curious about the SBD and other strings I have been hearing about on here but I don't want to waste my money on another string that doesn't keep the bow quiet. I know someone could make me another B50 and have similar results as the string I am shooting now but I would like to find a higher performance string that isn't noisy like what I experienced in the past. What are some of your recommendations?

I just put a SBD on my PSA, and the improvement is remarkable. Much quieter, and seems to hit harder. I will be ordering more of them.

What string did you use? Did you use the yarn wraps?

I will not put anything other than SBD strings on my bows from now on.  The difference is simply amazing.  Mine are longbows, not black widow, but I have tried several other type strings and none come close to comparing to SBD.  Makes the bow snappier, dead in the hand, and quiet.  I don't think you will be disappointed and if it doesn't work, you could probably sell it pretty quick!

I put a sbd string on my pch. I had the recurve wraps added, and put 4 cat whiskers about the size of a golf ball. I put one at 9' Down from string loop, and one down 14' from string loop. On both ends. Now this bow is a quit as my long bows. Sweet.

Try one of Allen's bikini strings from leftiesrus.

SBD with the recurve wraps would be a great choice.

It's hard to beat a string made by Rick ******. Very quiet string. Good performer and the length you tell him is what it will be. They also do not stretch where I'm constantly having to twist it back up.

I have tried other strings with no luck in increasing speed on my widows they can in some cases make them quieter but decrease speed for me n the process. I am not willing to do that so I just shoot what came with them and no deer I have killed ever complained about the noisier string your results may very.   Widow  PS all is shot over a crony I may not be done searching yet.

I'm with widow sax on this one. I like the stock Widow strings. Work fine for me.

I would stick with the BW strings they sell on their bows and in catalog...just me.

Only no stretch I really like is D97 and sometimes 450+ back when I used it but dont really like feel of the skinny strings too much.

If you are not having issues...then use the stock string.  If you like the B50 then use it.  Use what you want and I doubt there is more than a few FPS difference in any of them.

I've never had to do anything extreme to get them quiet--just padded loop Dynaflight '97.  Usually 12 strands with 18 in the loops.

I think the new BCY-X would be an even better choice--18-20 strands with the loops padded to 24.

If you order one and aren't satisfied with it, I'll give it to you.

Chad builds amazing strings...can't go wring with this old boy. The only fast flight string I ever got that didn't continue stretching.

Widow String on my PSAIII. 2 Spider silencers top 2 bottom. Around 8"'s and 14"s from the loops. This bow is more quiet than some Hybrids and Longbows I owned!   :archer2:
