I used to use Woodies all the time when I shot tournaments, Longbows had to use woodies.
One of my best 3D scores on a Warthog @ 54 yds slightly up hill, I shot a 31, That's one X and two 10's....
Sadly I have not shot tournaments our woodies in a long time....
I still have almost a full set, that a Mechanical engineer made for me....
I may have to get another set, like mentioned above, they are a work of Art.
I'll always thought the Fletcher should make 13 that way ya can add one to your Art collection....
Snag, could we work a deal on trade....

I'm in the process of making some up now..I picked up some cedar shafts and some ash as well. 20 years ago I used mostly wood with some aluminum thrown in. Then I went to all carbon for a while and now it just seems appropriate to shoot wood out of my Hill bow..lol

I love wooden arrows.  I just started shooting carbon last year.  So I still shoot and hunt with both.  Ive been bowhunting 30 yrs.  Killed with carbon last year for the first time.  But still shoot both.

Just recently put together my first set of woodies ( d f from Surewood). I love shooting wood , very quiet and actually tuned up easier and better than my carbons. I'm hooked

Caleb, glad you found one your bow likes!

Mike, you make some awesome quivers....?

Thomas, the finish is Daly's Profin. Great stuff. Sheets off perfectly and is very durable.

It fun to see guys try wood for the first time, or those who have come back to wood and rediscovered it.

It amazing to me the number of guys who have never shot wood.  When I shoot my wood at Denton Hill, guys are surprised how good they fly and how durable they can be.  I have woodies I have beem shooting since 1990.

You said it. I have some woodies from the 80s that are still straight and very shootable. Wood arrows are good for the soul, and besides, POC smells a lot better than carbon or aluminum.

When I first started archery as a kid, wood was all I shot because that is what the military base archery range offered. Later as an adult, when I returned to archery, I settled on aluminum with very good results. However, once I developed a liking for Hill bows wood seemed the logical way to go. Now that is all I shoot.

I used to let several of the compound shooters shoot my Hill with wood arrows, and they were very pleasantly surprised at both the accuracy and low noise level.

By the way, wood is not as fragile as a lot of guys think. I used to bend as many aluminum arrows as I break wooden ones.

Sam, that is so true about the durability of wood and the comparison to aluminum.

It's all I've ever shot.
I had a few sets of POC made here locally, but I have 2 sets from you, David and will be getting more. Tapered Sherwoods and your "art work" on the nock end are so beautiful and functional.
I do have some Autumn Orange 2018's that I want to get made up and try, though. Just like the colour of them. Won't like them if they're noisy though...

I just made my first dozen ash shafts ever. They are sure tough. Much more so than POC. They ended up at 645gr. with the 160 Stos I glued on. Straightening them is gonna take a daily effort however. Not too hard to get them right so its no big deal. I tried to paint on a crest and it didnt go well. Used wifes art brushed and it looked like a kindygartner did em.

Making a set soon.
Have used them in the past but went to 2018's.

Something about them draws me back though

To ME, Not shooting wooden shafts from a longbow is like putting racing sicks on a Prius.
Doesnt seem right.

Pulled the trigger and called Snag yesterday.  I'd like to get into making my own woodies some day, but figured I'd better get a set of premium arrows just to experience what they should become!
