Weird question regarding arrows
«
on:
March 19, 2014, 08:57:00 PM »
If you have two different brand of arrows that are both spined for your bow and are also within 25 grains total weight of each other and the same length.....is it possible that one would be very quiet out of a bow while the other is somewhat noisy?
The diameter of the arrows is slightly different and nock fit is about the same. The fatter arrow seems to be quieter.

I could believe it, probably the diameter thing causing it.

Various bows, but if you see me shooting, it's probably a Toelke in my hand!

It is written, but they bare shaft well and I've been shooting both types of arrows out of a handful of different bows for a while. They may not be exact, but they are pretty close.they always perform equally but I discovered it with this particular bow by accident.

Hmmm interesting. Might one have a loose point that rattles when shot ?

No, the tips are all on tight. Maybe it is in my head.... I need to shoot around a few guys soon and see what they think.

I'm assuming they are both carbon?

Slight and often barely visible differences in feathers can cause one arrow to be noisier than another.

Same fletching. Both carbon.
The only thing i can really think of is nock difference. Both nocks fit correctly but they are different size and shape

Probably the nock. Tiller may be different enough to affect limb timing and when nock comes of string.

I assume you're talking bow noise and not arrow flight noise. Do the arrows weigh the same? A lighter arrow is likely to make the bow a bit noisier.

This^^^
It takes only a slight change in diameter of shaft to effect tune. I assume since the fatter shaft is the quieter of the two, that it is better matching the center cut of the riser than the smaller diameter shaft.
Even though you may not be able to see it with your shooting, the smaller diameter shaft is likely shooting a bit stiffer than the larger, and the noise you are hearing may be some slight shaft slap & fletching contact due to that stiffness.

Arrows are within 15 grains of each other. After more shooting today I suspect it is the nock. Will update with anything new.
