FMJ dangerous game help
« on: March 26, 2014, 07:20:00 PM »
I was wondering if those of you shooting the dangerous game arrows could help me. If you could tell me if you are shooting the 300 or 250. the length, grains up front, FOC, and finished arrow weight. It could help me narrow down whether this is what I am looking for. I am having a hard time coming up with a arrow that has a finished weight of 700 to 750 grains with a high FOC of around 20%. My bow is 62# at my draw 28.5 so I need a arrow at least 29.5". I keep coming up with way heavier of a arrow or less FOC. With the shafts I have tried. That's way I was thinking I might try the FMJ DG arrows but not sure they are going to give me what I want either. Thanks

Have you checked out the Stu Miller Dynamic Spine calculator...I shoot 340 spine FMJ and have been thinking about trying either the standard 300 spine or the Dangerous Game...the calculator works well for sorting out potential FOC and overall weight...you also have the choice of the standard aluminium insert or the heavier brass one...you might also try posting a similar thread in the Dangerous Game category where some have tried those arrows

Another option is using 100 grain brass inserts out of Gold tip Kinetics. They come in stiffer spines and are lighter than the dangerous games so you should be able to get a higher foc?

Just did a check and the standard 300 spine FMJ with 300 grains up front looks promising

Thanks for the replies. I can not get the stu Miller calculator to work on my mac or phone but it looks like a full length 300 with the 75 grain HIT and 200 point would be 775 grains. As long as it is not too weak I think it might work. 3 rivers dose not sell these in a test kit.

I shoot the 300 spine @30" with 100 grain inserts and 300 grain points out of my 70# bows.

Really forgiving shaft

Jerremy,

I shoot the FMJ 300's cut to 30 inches valley of nock to back of point with 100 grain brass insert and 145 grain points out of my 61 # MAII Black Widow and my 60# Black Widow MAII.  I draw 27 inches so take about 3 # off.  They fly perfect.  When they need to be re-fletched  I may trim some off and try heavier points but I doubt it.  They come in at 715 grains as is with 3 5 inch RW shield feathers.  I hope this helps.
