Most of the time a hunter using a big, bulky, ladder stand usually sets them up a few days before the hunt.I don't think there are still many folks out there that go in in ther dark and set one up the day of the hunt. Once a ladder stand is in fact set up and left for a few days i have never been in one that spooked deer. They get use to them being here.

Last year I placed my one person ladder stand out late morning and hunted it that afternoon, I can tell you for sure it didnt spook game since I had 3 bucks within 7 yards of the ladder that day.  In fact the one I did take , a nice 8 point, actually rubbed his antlers on the ladder before I shot him at 17 yards.

This year for the youth season, Sept 15th 2007 I did the same thing with the late morning stand setup and afternoon hunt for my son.  With in 4 hours of setting the stand up a nice 8 walked up on my son and I in a 2 person stand.  I am proud to say he made a fine shot at 40 yards on this deer.

I dont think that ladder stands spook deer, I absolutely know that they dont spook deer.
Hunt fair, hunt hard, no regrets.

I've been hunting almost strictly out of ladders for the last five years with absolutely no problem at all. My favorite is the Loggy Bayou Bowhunter with the flip-up seat. Just tuck them into forked, double trees or softwoods. If you are still concerned, you can wire or tie-wrap softwood or leafy branches to the uprights. You can also buy those plastic leafy vines in craft stores and wrap them around the uprights and rungs. The leaves never die and fall off. Works great. bw

Not unless you are dancing on them at the time....LOL.  Only caution is pay attention to the foot section.  I didn't and bought one with a small foot platform and it is tricky turning for an off-side shot.

Thank you all for your feedback.  I came from the wide open west and am used to spot and stalk.  Learning the ambush technique.

I think its interesting that some think they do not spook deer at all. Come hunt public land in Michigan and see if your opinion doesn`t change.
If it is left out long enough to become part of the scenery, it will go home with someone else.

Nope. I am always surprised how much game I see out of my ladder stand.  It's only 12' tall, whereas my hangons are usually 18'-20'.  Just as much game at close range from the ladder.

I used to hunt an area with old farm equipment and junk cars strewn throughout the place.  Didn't bother the game.

I have used them for years and killed my biggest buck from one. I have had deer smell and rub on the ladders.

The ladder stand itself does not.  The tresspassers who hunt your stand will.

NO!

The doe I shot was within 3 feet of my ladder stand, turned, walked about 15 yards, turned broadside and waited for me to blow a snuffer through her ribcage. While I was waiting after I shot her, three more came within 15 feet of my ladder. They spooked at the bloody arrow sticking up in the middle of the trail, but didn't pay a bit of attention to the ladder. BTW there were four does standing around my stand when I walked in that morning. I walked right up on them in the half-light before dawn, but didn't get a shot.
