String popping off Bear Montana
« on: April 09, 2014, 07:33:00 PM »
Friend of mine bought a Bear Montana a month ago. The string pops off when he shoots it. He twisted it tighter but still doing it. Anyone else have this issue or have any suggestions?

The loops may be too big. To make them smaller take some strong string and tie them off with several wraps.

If it works check back in with results... heck check back even if it doesn't.

Also possible that the string nocks are to shallow. You'll need file skills to fix that.

I saw one at the new Bas$ Pr* shop in town and the grooves were too shallow to hold the string.  The salesman was a bowyer and he pointed it out.  That being said, he strung another one and let me test shoot it.  I am a recurve guy, but I have to admit it is one sweet shooting bow!

I had this problem with a Bear Patriot Longbow. I decreased the loops making a serving on it. It worked, until I got a new string, with smaller loops.

Is the string overtwisted and trying to roll on you?

All the above,  and, check to see if a limb is twisted.

People tell me the string is coming off all the time. Then I find out they have the bow strung backwards!

Allen..I work weekends at an archery range..the last 3 Montana's we got had this same issue..so did one Super Kodiak. Bear told us they located the problem.. and have taken care of it. Its been a problem since last year for us. The range owner was ready to stop selling their line of trad bows.

I've built a few bows so the owner was comfortable letting me get to work with a chainsaw file to fix the problem on the last two bows but you may just want to send yours back..there will be no questions asked as Bear is aware of the issue.

Buddy took it back to Cabelas. Did the same thing there. Grooves were not deep enough. They took the longbow back and  gave him a real good deal on a Kodiak.
