Health issue and hunting
« on: September 20, 2007, 06:32:00 AM »
I just found out that I have a 95% closed artery on the left side of my neck, this has reduce the blood flow to my head to %5. I will be operated on this opn MOnday 9/24/07. The docotr said I should be able to get out to hunt on )ct 13.... so they say the recovery is about 2 weeks. Has anyone else had this operation and how was recovery period...I have closed my archery shop till the recover period is over. First time in 20+ years the shop is not open and the coffee pot on. I also even took down the outside signs.
I have been playing with a lower weight bow that might just fit the bill of hunting with, It is a checkmate bow at 45 lbs...Thanks to all for the years of info and help in this sport of ours...

Sweet Old Bill. I know a fella who had exactly the same thing done. Two days after his surgery was scheduled I saw him mowing his lawn. I stopped to ask why he didn`t have it done, and he smiled and said that he had. He was NOT supposed to be mowing the lawn, but his wife said it was better than splitting wood like he was gonna do.

Do not despair. Just do what the doctor says, and
you will be back to your old self shortly. I will be thinking of you.

When you can finally hunt, the weather will be cooler, and the bucks will be getting a bit more antzy. Take care.

Good luck, Bill.  With God's help doctors work miracles every day!  Check out Psalm 91.  You're going to be okay!

I know of one gent within our archery club who also had the same surgery. He stated to me that it made a great difference in his energy level.  In short, it was a good thing to have the surgery.

Best wishes sir.  Don't forget to put the signs back up.

GOD Bless,
David

Best mojo to your surgeon(s)on the procedure. If all goes as planned, you'll probably feel fantastic after you recover!

My mom is going in for the same proceedure next week.  It's scary, but generally not too intense, and recovery isn't too long.

Hang in there Bill, and best of luck!

A buddy of mine had the same surgery last year, recovery was quick and as others have already said his energy level improved tremendously. He decided to hunt off the ground if he didnt have someone with him and was able to take a nice buck. Best of luck and may your recovery be quick.

59 here, was at our weekend Trad shoot in June  and got an intense burning sensation in my chest. Went to the hospital and had the blood work done. They said I may have had a slight heart attack, they admitted me. Took a stress test the next day and failed it. Had a heart cath done the next day, 90% blockage in the main artery coming off the bottom of my heart. I was almost dead and never knew it. They put in 2 stints, I layed there and watched the entire procedure on the computer screen the doctor was watching. Piece of cake Bill. Was off work two weeks, feel better now than I have in years. I could not understand why I was feeling so tired the past 6 months, now I know.

You will be fine my friend, good luck this season. Roy

SWB,

My Mother has had the same procedure. She was up and around in about 3 days (they keep you VERY still for 24 hours, this was a stent implant) and then home after 3 days, with little restriction as to what she did.
Was nearly fully normal after two weeks, AND her energy level was markedly up!   :clapper:

All the best, and a prayer for your speedy recovery.
